Insanitary storage (rodent excreta/urine, bird droppings) — Salmonella & Leptospira risk. An FDA inspection found the distribution facility operating under insanitary conditions including rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings. All FDA-regulated products held at the facility were recalled, including several major pet food brands. No illnesses reported. Manufacturer-direct frozen/refrigerated shipments are NOT affected.

What To Do If You Have This Product

  1. Applies to pet food bought at affected stores in MN, ND, and IN (see the FDA notice for the store list).
  2. Destroy affected products — do NOT return them to Gold Star; request a refund at 612-617-9800.
  3. If your pet ate the product and shows vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or lethargy, contact your veterinarian.
